History of the Parish Council:

The Pastoral Council of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish was established on September 21, 1996.  The first council included eleven lay members and one staff member of the parish appointed by Fr. Vince O’Neill.  The council selected a Chairman, Vice-chairman and a secretary.  The first order of business was the adoption of a mission statement, which is reproduced on the cover of the parish bulletin.

Under the leadership of Fr. Angelito Peries, the council expanded its membership to include a representative of the Knights of Columbus, the Madonna Sodality and a representative of the youth of the parish.

The Council accepted the task of building the parish center and appointed a fund raising committee, a building committee and a kitchen committee.  The Council also established a goals and objective committee which eventually lead to the adoption of the present Constitution.  The Constitution, which became effective on July 1, 1999, provides that all of the parish ministries will have a member on the Council.  The pastoral council met four times per year.  In addition, an executive committee was established.  The ministries were divided into four committees.  Each committee selected a member to serve on the executive committee.  In addition the pastor selected two at-large members to serve on the executive committee.  Finally the council elects a president and vice-president from among the membership and the president selects a secretary.  The three officers are also members of the executive committee.  The executive committee met monthly.

The constitution has been amended several times since its adoption.  The number of meetings for the council was reduced to three per year.  The number of meetings of the executive committee was reduced to ten per year.  The number of at-large members appointed by the pastor was increase to four.

In May 2007 the council amended the constitution to provide that the four at-large members will be selected by members of the parish.  Eleven candidates have been nominated to fill four at-large positions on the Pastoral Council.  All members of the parish age 16 and over are eligible to vote for in the election.
