Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation
The Catholic Church has seven sacraments. They are Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist (Holy Communion), Reconciliation (Confession), Holy Orders, Matrimony (Marriage), and Anointing of the Sick.
What is Confirmation? Confirmation gives us the power to become adults in the life of grace.
What did Jesus say to institute the sacrament of Confirmation? Jesus said, "Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit." Acts of the Apostles 8:14-17
What does Confirmation do for us? Confirmation increases and deepens the sanctifying grace and actual grace received in Baptism. It imprints an indelible seal or character upon the soul, enable us to be a true witness to Christ, and to spread and defend the Faith by word and deed.
Sacramental grace helps us to carry out the particular purpose of that sacrament. What is that for Confirmation? It gives us strength to profess our faith even under difficulties and persecutions and to give good example to others.
